29 fishermen arrested for engaged in illegal fishing

On information received, naval personnel have arrested 29 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing activities in the seas off Kalmunai.


During the arrest one multi-day fishing trawler, one day fishing trawler, two fiber glass dinghies, and ten diving masks were also taken into the naval custody, the Navy said in a statement.


The arrested persons and the items were handed over to the Addalachchenai Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.
