The Disaster Management Center (DMC) says that the water levels of several rivers have increased due to the inclement weather conditions prevailing in parts of the country.
DMC Deputy Director Pradeep Kodippili said that the water levels of Kalu, Gin and Nilwala rivers have risen and that this has caused flooding of several lowland areas.
It has been reported that due to the water level of Kalu Ganga rising considerably this has escalated into a minor floods situation.
Therefore people living in close proximity of rivers are requested to remain cautious regarding the prevailing weather condition, Mr Kodippili said.
Meanwhile the DMC requested the public to provide necessary assistance for conducting estimations of houses damaged due to the recent disaster situation.
This is being carried out jointly by the Grama Niladari Offices, Divisional Secretariats and District Secretariats.
