Death toll from Ballapana van-bus collision rises to seven

The death toll following yesterday’s traffic collision involving a van and a bus in Ballapana rose to seven after three more passengers of the van succumbed to injuries today (24). 

A van traveling from Kandy to Colombo had collided head-on with a Colombo-Mawanella private bus at Ballapana in Kegalle while attempting to overtake another vehicle. 

Two males and two females died from the accident yesterday (24), three of them en route to hospital and the other while receiving treatment at the Kegalle General Hospital (Teaching).

One of the injured persons, who was in critical condition, had been transferred to the Kandy General Hospital for further treatment last evening while another five injured persons were receiving treatment at the Kegalle Hospital. 

Three of them had succumbed to injuries today, bringing the death toll from the fatal crash to seven. 

The passengers of the van, who were killed and wounded in the accident, are resident of Urapola. 

The driver of the bus has been arrested by Kegalle Police.
