Dengue prevention in full swing

Health Minister Rajitha Senarathne has instructed the Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala to implement continuous dengue prevention programs island-wide from today (27) as a dengue epidemic situation has escalated, the Government Information Department announced.
Tri-forces together with the Police and the Civil Defence Force will be engaged in the prevention program in Kolonnawa, Kaduwela, Gampaha, Dehiwala, and Mount Lavinia areas. The epidemic situation in Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia are reported high.
According to the Dr. Mahipala, the schools and the construction sites have been recognized as the dengue alert areas. The Secretary of the Education Ministry has been informed by the Director General of Health Services to take immediate action for the dengue prevention in the school premises. Over 70 percent of the construction sites in Colombo city area have been issued red alerts by the authorities.
Island-wide 19, 731 dengue suspects have been reported so far in 2016. Approximately, 47.61 percent of the dengue patients were reported from the Western Province.
The health authorities added that another three-day dengue prevention program will be implemented from 30th June to 2nd July.
