Navy arrests 10 local fishermen using illegal nets

Sri Lanka Navy arrested 10 local fishermen in two separate interceptions for engaged in illegal fishing practices in the seas off Thalpadu and Kadiraweli.  
 
Naval personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba located in Thalvupadu in North Central Naval Command, arrested 2 local fishermen off Thalpadu yesterday (26), navy said. 

Along with the suspects 2 dinghies and a monofilament net used for fishing were taken into naval custody. The arrested persons and items were handed over to Mannar Assistant Directorate of Fisheries for further investigations.

On the same day another 08 fishermen were apprehended, for engaging in illegal fishing in Kadiraweli sea area, by naval personnel attached to SLNS Kashyapa located in Vakarei in the Eastern Naval Command. 

During the arrest, a purse seine net, 2 dinghies and a diving mask were taken into custody. The suspects along with the belongings were produced to Vakarei Police for onward action.
