US submarine supply ship to refuel in Sri Lanka

USS Frank Cable (AS - 40) a submarine tender will dock at Colombo in Sri Lanka to refuel and port visit, the American embassy said.

The submarine supply ship has a crew of nearly 500, and is deployed to support the US 5th and 7th fleets and is based in the Pacific island of Guam.

During the visit US sailors will be given shore leave and will also volunteer at an animal shelter, the embassy said.

This is the third U.S. Navy ship to visit Sri Lanka in 2016, following visits by the USS Blue Ridge and USS New Orleans.   

The US Navy has two such vessels.
