Provincial Councilor Jagath Kumara released on bail

A Western Provincial Councilor who surrendered after an investigation launched against him for allegedly assaulting a cop during a protest near the Parliament has been released on bail on Monday.


Provincial Councilor Jagath Kumara was released on two personal bails of Rs.500,000 each after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.


A complaint has been lodged against him for allegedly assaulting the cop during a demonstration organized by the Samurdhi officials last week.


The case will be taken up for hearing again on 11 July, 2017.
