Sri Lanka Police today said that the value of the cocaine haul recovered from a ship at the Colombo Port has been estimated as Rs 12 billion and that it is the largest ever cocaine stock recovered from South Asia.

Close to 800 kilograms of cocaine were discovered this morning (9) in a ship transporting timber which had arrived from Ecuador and headed towards India.

The discovery was made by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), who searched the vessel after obtaining a court order, acting on a tip-off.
