Appeal Court to hear plea against Raviraj verdict

February 22, 2017   05:21 pm

The Court of Appeals has decided to hear the plea filed by the wife of former MP Nadarajah Raviraj, seeking a retrial of the murder case.

A special jury had acquitted all five accused in the murder, including Navy intelligence officers, in December last year.

Raviraj’s wife filed a plea that the case should be sent for retrial under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and not under ordinary law as the suspects were arrested under the PTA.

The application was taken up for consideration today by a two-member judge bench, which decided to hear the plea on March 28 and also issued notice on the Attorney General and respondents previously acquitted in the case to appear before the court on the said date.
