Several international schools have reportedly opted to pull out of the International Schools’ Athletic Championships (ISAC) this year owing to possible security concern.
An anonymous letter pertaining to a ‘bomb threat’ at the ISAC meet, which is to be held on 25th, 26th and 27th February 2017 at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama.
In the wake of this, the organizing committee of ISAC 2017 had decided to take measures to ensure the safety and well being of all attendees while this included a variety of security checks.
However, certain schools scheduled to participate in the meet have informed parents that despite the extra police and security they have decided to pull out of the competition in consideration of the safety of their students and staff.
A spokesman for Lyceum International School, the official organizer of ISAC this year, said that this threat is most likely an act of sabotage by a certain group.
Meanwhile the police spokesman, when contacted by Ada Derana, said that he is unaware of any such situation.
