PM meets Minister of External Affairs of India

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is currently in India on official business has reportedly held a discussion with the Minister of External Affairs of India, Sushma Swaraj.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the discussion took place in New Delhi.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which is based on the friendship, comradery and solidarity between Sri Lanka and India, was signed for the mutual benefit of citizens of both countries, Indian Minister of External Affairs said.

She further stated that based on the MOU, consensuses could be achieved regarding the development of various sectors, which would speed up the development process.

PM Ranil Wickremesinghe stated the importance of maintaining the amicable relations between India and Sri Lanka prevailing from ancient times, and the need to further strengthen ties in particular areas from time to time.

Wickremesinghe said that ties should specifically be strengthened in areas such as public and private enterprise, investment and education, culture, and technology.

The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the discussion also addressed the issue of Indo-Lanka fishing conflicts.
