The Ministry of Disaster Management does not have a proper strategy to face disasters, MP Dinesh Gunawardena states.

Gunawardena stated this at the parliament adjournment debate held in the morning today (28) to address the issues of waste disposal and the Meethotamulla garbage heap.

According to our reporters, the directive regarding waste management issued by the President under the Public Security Ordinance was also presented for the approval of the Parliament.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, upon expressing his views at the debate, highlighted the need for a powerful organization for waste management, and also addressed the question of clinical waste released from hospitals.

Meanwhile, JVP MP Vijitha Herath who was also present at the debate, stated that the waste disposal management had become politicized.
