Shots fired at police patrol car in Kilinochchi

A police patrol vehicle was shot at in Palai, Kilinochchi yesterday (18).
A police sergeant and two constables were reportedly on duty at the time of the shooting.
When the site of the shooting was investigated in the early hours today (19), remnants of a T-56 assault rifle had been uncovered.
The Police and the Police Special Task Force (STF) have opened an investigation into the shooting. According to their reports, the shooting is suspected to be an act of sabotage.
Police confirmed that neither the patrol vehicle nor the officers on duty had been hurt, but stated that several railway signal posts had been shot at.
Police raised suspicion that the incident took place in connection with the commemoration of the end of terrorism in Sri Lanka and the death of the LTTE leader on this very day, 8 years ago.
The crime scene is currently being investigated by Police officers, Police STF officers and Sri Lanka Army officers. No suspects have been arrested yet.
