Narcotics worth Rs. 12 mil. seized in Galle

3500 tablets of ecstasy and 55 g of cocaine have been discovered in Galle by Sri Lanka Customs today (25), Customs Media Spokesperson and Additional Director General of Customs, Dharmasena Kahandawa said.

The stock of narcotics, valued at Rs. 12 million, was reportedly discovered at the Galle Passenger Warehouse.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs had been dispatched from the UK on May 11, Customs spokesperson added.

He also stated that the drugs had been found inside 4 cases of unaccompanied passenger baggage, concealed inside candles, a blender and an iron bed.

The owner of the baggage is a 58-year-old Sri Lankan born German citizen.

The discovery was made by the Superintendent of Customs of the Central Investigations Bureau, G. B. Gnanaraj.

The investigation is currently being conducted by the Superintendent of Customs, A. Shanthasiri, and Assistant Superintendents of Customs, S. D. S. D Jayawardane and June Fernando.

Dharmasena Kahandawa added that the investigations would be supervised by the Deputy Directors of Customs, A. Ukwatte and T. Welikala, alongside the Directors of Customs, P. S. Senaratne and Sisira de Silva.
