Showery and windy condition expected to continue

The Department of Meteorology says that within past 21.00hrs very heavy showers were reported from Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces while the Rathnapura meteorological station received very heavy rainfall (196.7 mm).

It is raining heavily over Rathnapura, Kegalle, Galle, Matara and Colombo districts, the department said. 

South-west monsoon conditions are establishing over the country. Hence Showery and windy condition are expected to continue over the south-western part of the country, it said.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces while heavy falls (more than 150 mm) can be expected at some places.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere in the afternoon, especially in the Eastern and Uva provinces.

Fairly strong winds at times (up to 50kmph) can be expected over the island.
