Airman who died during relief efforts posthumously promoted

Flight Sergeant Y.M.S. Yaparathna, the Airman who died during flood rescue operations, has been posthumously promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force. 

The 37-year-old had fallen off the helicopter while carrying a flood victim on a cable on Friday (26) morning. 

He succumbed to injuries later that day while receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.

Sri Lanka Air Force has deployed helicopters to rescue the people stranded by the floods and to distribute relief.
