The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development has focused its attention towards the issuing of a temporary permit for the fishing of the commercial fish species known as ‘Thambuwa’.

Fishing for the Thambuwa species had previously been banned until now, due to their risk of extinction.

The Thambuwa fish species is considered to be an environmentally-friendly fish species.

However, the Ministry had taken the decision to issue temporary permits for the catching of Thambuwa, as per the request made by fishermen.

An investigation report is expected to be submitted by the NARA Corporation prior to the issuing of the permit.

According to the permit, only fish weighing over 800 g are allowed to be caught.
