Sri Lanka will undertake a major promotional campaign to expand its tea exports to new markets, a minister said.

Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake said that Sri Lanka’s tea market in Russia has shrunk a bit, but export to Iran has risen.

The minister said the country is seeking new market for tea exports, noting that China is a lucrative tea market to be tapped.

“We intend to promote our tea sales in the United States, Latin America,” he added.
Sri Lanka is world famous for its tea brand “Ceylon Tea.”

Besides, the minister said he has plans in place to develop coconut as a-billion-dollar industry.
