Wennappuwa Police announced that investigations were being conducted into the abduction that occurred on June 25.

The abducted individual is reported to be a businessman by the name of Ajith Peries, who is a resident of Helen Mawatha in Wennappuwa.

The abductee’s wife, Jasintha Kumudini Perera lodged a complaint regarding the abduction with the Wennappuwa Police yesterday (26).

She reported that an individual named “Guna” had arrived in a motor vehicle at approximately 5.00 am on June 25 and kidnapped the businessman.

The abductee’s wife stated that the kidnapper was demanding a ransom of Rs. 5 million and that he had informed her that her husband was being held captive in an unknown location in Batticaloa.

The kidnapper had informed the wife of this when she attempted to make a phone call to her husband.

Police speculate that the abduction was a result of a financial dispute, given the abductee’s background in the commercial sector.
