Secretary General of the Parliament, Dhammika Dasanayake stated that laws will be passed which will enable strict action to be taken against MP’s misbehaving in parliament.

He added that the necessary legal provisions will be made in order to amend the Standing Orders present in parliament.

The amendments will allow disciplinary action taken against unacceptable forms of behavior to include the suspension of the perpetrators from parliament, for a period of eight weeks.

Dasanayake expressed these views at a two-day workshop for parliamentary media personnel, held in Kalutara.

Meanwhile, Dasanayake added that attention has been drawn towards the opening of special parliamentary committee sessions to the media.

He stated  that the proposed Standing Orders will allow  the media to participate in the meetings of the Committees on Public Finance and Enterprises.
