Two arrested in Mirigama for possession of T-56 assault rifle

Two individuals have been arrested in Kithalawalana, Mirigama, over the possession of a T-56 firearm.

Police Headquarters reported that the suspects had been arrested following a raid which was made based on an intelligence tip received by the Law Enforcement Unit of the Gampaha Division.

One T-56 firearm and 25 of its bullets have been taken into Police custody.

The arrestees are reported to be residents of Mirigama, aged 21 and 41 years.

The two are due to be produced before the Attanagalle Magistrate’s Court today (17).

Mirigama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
