Specialist doc arrested over alleged bribery scheme further remanded

The specialist doctor attached to the Kuliyapitiya Base Hospital arrested in connection with a bribery allegation has been further remanded.
When the relevant case was called in today (24), Colombo Chief Magistrate, Justice Lal Bandara denied the request for bail, and further remanded him till August 04.
The specialist doctor was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 75,000 from a private laboratory.
The Bribery Commission today (24) informed the Court that investigations had not been completed yet, and proceeded to submit 05 voice recordings relevant to the case against the specialist doctor.
After taking into consideration the case presented before him, Justice Lal Bandara ruled that sufficient information was not available to support the suspect’s request for bail.
Meanwhile, the Bribery Commission also informed the Court that investigations of the laboratory technician arrested and remanded in connection with the bribery incident had been concluded.
Ada Derana court correspondent accordingly reported that the technician had been granted personal bail worth Rs. 500,000 by the Chief Magistrate.
