Parliament adjourned following tense situation

Speaker of THE Parliament, Karu Jayasuriya took measures to temporarily adjourn the Parliamentary session owing to the heated situation that arose mid-session.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had issued a special statement on the petroleum workers’ strike in Parliament today (26). Following the statement, the Joint Opposition (JO) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had proceeded to raise various questions from the Opposition parliamentarians, which had subsequently led to a situation of unrest.

Ada Derana correspondent reported that measures had accordingly been taken to adjourn the session temporarily in light of the the aforementioned situation of unrest.
