Awa gang leader along with 06 suspects remanded

The leader of the Awa gang Sathyavel Nathan Nishanthan along with 06 suspects who were arrested by the TID in connection with the Kopai attacks, have been remanded till August 22, 2017 by the Jaffna Magistrate court.  

It has been reported that the Ava gang was behind the terrorizing Kopai attacks in the North of the island. The group which allegedly derives their inspiration from South Indian films is a sword wielding gang of activists who were the chief suspects in a series of terror attacks that saw several law enforcement officials get injured. 

The TID were able to apprehend Nishanthan along with several Ava gang members over the course of last week.
