Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has stated that he will not postpone the gazetting of a minimum standard for medical education any longer.
Speaking to the media, Minister Senaratne stated that the claim the GMOA made against him stating that he was attempting to delay the process was baseless. He further stated that the gazetting process had been delayed for several years by the GMOA themselves.
He also stated that the GMOA are misleading the public by not acknowledging the discussions held with the Prime Minister to gazette a minimum standard for Medical Education highlighting the earnest efforts he has been making to streamline the process.
Minister Senaratne further stated that he had initiated the process to gazette a minimum standard upon his appointment in 2015. He also mentioned that currently his proposal for the gazette has been handed over to the Attorney General’s Department for translation.
Accordingly, Minister Senaratne stated that all steps have been taken to gazette a minimum standard and that it will be established as promised.
