Police open fire at suspect fleeing in car in Veyangoda

A shooting incident has been reported near the Veyangoda flyover when a team of police officers giving chase to a suspect had opened fire at his car. 

Police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that a team of officers from the Kalmunai special crimes investigations unit were attempting to apprehend the suspect who was fleeing in a car. 

The suspect had maneuvered the car to evade the police vehicle prompting police officers to open fire at the car. 

The police spokesman said that one person was injured in the incident and that the suspect in question has been taken into custody.
