Myanmar gifts young tusker to Sri Lanka

A young tusker gifted to President Maithripala Sirisena by the government of Myanmar, will be presented to the Dalada Maligawa. 

It has been reported that the 21 year old tusker who arrived from Myanmar on August 18, is currently at a special enclosure within the premises of the Temple of the Tooth. 

The Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana states that the tusker will be able to carry the sacred tooth relic in years to come. 
The Secretary also stated that the tusker will be handed over to the Maligawa completely after a one month period of quarantine.
