Navy arrests 12 Indian fishermen

Sri Lanka Navy arrested 12 Indian fishermen along with their 2 fishing trawlers for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters about 2 nautical miles North-east of the Kachchativu Island.
 
Naval personnel onboard Fast Attack Craft and SLNS Ranawickrama attached to the Northern Naval Command apprehended the fishermen on routine patrol yesterday (11).

The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uththara in Kankesanthurai and the trawler and the fishing gear were taken to SLNS Elara in Kareinagar. 

The 12 Indian fishermen were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward legal action.
