Aloysius cannot be compelled to give evidence if unwilling – commission

September 13, 2017   12:04 pm

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing the treasury bond scam today said that it cannot compel Arjun Aloysius to give evidence before the commission if he is not willing to do so.

However, the commission pointed out that it believes that the evidence of the Perpetual Treasuries Limited owner is necessary for the case.

Meanwhile summons has been issued in former Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran to appear before the commission on September 19.

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Monday (11) issued summons on Aloysius to appear before the commission today (13), to give evidence.

However, Attorney-at-law Gamini Marapana PC, who is representing Aloysius and Perpetual Treasuries Limited, raised objections to his client giving evidence before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry during proceedings that day.

Aloysius was instructed by the Commission to appear today with a comprehensive record of his bank statements to further the current investigation that is being conducted.
