PC Elections Amendment Bill requires 2/3 majority in Parliament - AG

The Attorney General has informed the Speaker of Parliament that the Provincial Council Elections (Amendment) Bill needs to be passed by a two-thirds majority of votes in Parliament. 

This was announced by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya during the Parliament session, a short while ago. 

Earlier today, Parliament was adjourned due to a tense situation as Joint Opposition members raised objections during the debate o the bill.  

Parliament resumed after a party leaders meeting to seek AG advice on the Provincial Council Elections (Amendment) Bill.
