Nationwide strikes in protest of SAITM today

The GMOA has announced that a series of strikes will be launched across the island today (21), in protest of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine.
Media spokesperson of the GMOA Dr.Samantha Ananda stated that the protests will be conducted to protect the rights of patients who expect well trained, knowledgeable medical professionals to treat them.
It was also mentioned that the objective of the strikes will be to indefinitely shut down SAITM and ensure that government officials comply with several demands made by the medical community.
Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Union stated that several Principals and teachers will also join the GMOA in their strike. Several Unions from the nursing community too will join the protests.
President of the Public Health Inspector’s Union Upul Rohana stated that he will not participate in the strikes conducted by the GMOA.
