World Bank willing to assist Sri Lanka mitigate climate disasters

Sri Lanka and the World Bank have explored possibilities of leveraging resources to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Executive Director of the World Bank for the constituency of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, Ms. S. Aparna and the World Bank’s Country Director for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Mrs. Idah Z. Pswarayi-Riddihough, met Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Mangala Sawaraweera at the Ministry of Finance, yesterday (21).

Ms. Aparna commended the government on the positive social indicators displayed in the fields of health, education, literacy rate and life expectancy, a statement said.

In light of the recent natural disasters that affected Sri Lanka, the government had conveyed the need for extensive collaboration to mitigate such climate related disasters. 

Executive Director Aparna stated that the World Bank is willing to assist Sri Lanka in such endeavors, the statement said.
