Garbage dump blocking Sri Pada path to be cleared

The Chief incumbent of Sri Pada, Vice Chancellor of Uva-Wellassa University, Ven. Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Nayaka Thero said that immediate steps have been taken to clear the garbage deposited in Welamita Vanguwa area, after the garbage dump in Nallathanniya- Udamaluwa road collapsed recently.

The Army and Police are involved in clearing the road with the assistance of residents in the area,the Thero added.

The garbage dump awaiting clearing, slipped due to the heavy rain blocking the Sri Pada – Hatton on October 14,Ada Derana correspondent reported.

Meanwhile, the Business community in Nallathanniya- Udamaluwa road said that the waste dumped in and around Sri Pada by pilgrims were heaped at the spot for clearance but the work was held up due to incessant rains resulting in the slide.
