Railway strike called off

Railway trade unions have decided to call off their planned strike after discussion with the Ministry of Transport. 

Chairman of the Railway Locomotive Engine Drivers Union Lal Paranavithana stated that they decided to temporarily call off the strike after talks held with the Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Services Asoka Abeysinghe today.

Railway Department employees announced that a strike will be staged from midnight today (20), in wake of the government not meeting several promises made to Railway department Trade Unions on employee salary allowances. 

The train drivers, railway controllers and station masters were scheduled to participate in the strike.
