Sri Lanka, Iran sign extradition treaty

An agreement on extraditing convicts was signed on Sunday between Iran and Sri Lanka.

The deal was signed by Sri Lankan Ambassador to Tehran Anis Zaidi and Iran’s Justice Minister Alireza Avaei, and the document is expected to be delivered for signing to the Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs by Iranian envoy to the country.

Avaei said in the meeting that there is much capacity in development of bilateral relations between Iran and Sri Lanka and the two nations should utilize all capacities to boost ties.

He also expressed hope for the two countries to enhance their judiciary ties in order to promote rights.

The Sri Lankan ambassador announced that the country’s President will visit Iran soon, and said that the visit will pave the way for strengthening relations between the two countries.
