Govt Medical Faculty students to resume attending lectures from Nov 20

Convener of the Medical Faculty Student’s Action Committee (MFSAC) Ryan Jayalath stated that all government medical faculty students will resume attending lectures on November 20.
The anti-SAITM protests led by the MFSAC, parents and several other groups ended their struggle against the South Asian Institute of Technology on November 8, after a discussion with Deputy Minister Dr.Harsha de Silva.
President Maithripala Sirisena appointed a new committee chaired by Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva to implement the recommendations of the committee previously appointed on the SAITM issue and to consider other issues which have been highlighted.
Delivering a special statement in Parliament on November 8, the deputy minister said that steps will be taken to abolish the private medical college by December 31, 2017.
He stated that enrolling medical students to SAITM will be halted and that the decision which will be taken with regard to the students currently registered with the college will be announced in the near future.
