Protest staged in Jaffna against reduction of beer prices

November 17, 2017   02:55 pm

Residents of Jaffna staged a protest earlier today (17), against the proposed reduction of beer prices through the 2018 budget.

The protest was conducted before the Northern Province Governor’s Office.

Participants stated that the President should not conform to the proposed price reduction if his ambition is to curtail liquor consumption within Sri Lanka.

Speaking to an Ada Derana correspondent, the protesters stated that encouraging liquor consumption will give rise to violent gangs such as the ‘Ava Group’.

Following the protests two petitions were submitted to the District Secretary condoning the revised beer prices.
