Sarath Weerasekara alleges conspiracy against President

November 21, 2017   06:25 pm

Former Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara claims that the Defence Ministry and the Foreign Affairs Ministry are not coming forward to safeguard Sri Lanka’s war heroes in order to inconvenience the President.

Speaking at a press conference today (21), the report of the ‘Darusman Committee’ had paved the way for allegations of war crimes against Sri Lankan armed forces and that it had claimed around 40,000 civilians were killed in the war.

However, the British Parliamentarian Lord Naseby has clearly declared at the actual figures are somewhere around 8,000 and that none of those reports have been submitted to the UN Human Rights Council.

He also stated that the Government of Sri Lankan should express its gratitude to Lord Naseby.

The former MP accused the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of purposely neglecting their responsibilities with regard to this and claimed that he believes this to be a conspiracy against the President.
