The Ministry of Education has decided to suspend the newly introduced syllabus for Advanced Level Communication and Media Studies.

The National Institute of Education introduced new syllabuses for all Advanced Level subjects under the new subject curricular which was introduced in 2015.
However the new syllabus for Advanced Level Communication and Media Studies was suspended on the recommendations of the Academic Affairs Board appointed by the National Institute of Education.
A number of Teachers’ Associations have also opposed the introduction of the new syllabus and its contents on several occasions due to the shortcomings that exist in the new syllabus.
The Education Secretary called for a report on advises of the Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam due to numerous complaints received regarding the new syllabus.
Steps have been taken to send the curricular pertaining to the decision to Provincial Educational secretaries and schools, said the Secretary of Education Ministry.
