Police officer swept away by floodwaters in Madampe

A police officer has been reported missing after being swept away by flood water during an attempt to rescue three persons who were caught in the floods at Metihena, Madampe. 

A 29-year-old Police Constable attached to the Madampe Police Station has gone missing in this manner, according to the Police Spokesman. 

He was reportedly part of a rescue team deployed to assist flood-affected people in the area following information received by Madampe Police that several families were stranded due to floods in Galmuruwa.

The Police Constable in question had attempted to rescue three individuals who were being carried away strong currents when he himself was caught and dragged away by the flood water. 

Madampe Police said that a search operation is currently underway to locate the missing Constable.
