Chief Prelates of Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters have given a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena to bring his attention to actions of both clergy and laymen against the Buddha Sasana.
They have pointed out that there are many sly and organized anti-sasana activities happening at the present.
Laymen and clergy alike, have portrayed arbitrarily distorted interpretations of Tripitaka Sutra Dhamma and words, states the letter.
The Chief Prelates show that myths and views are being spread around in the Buddhist community by changing history and Buddha’s life story, connecting them with baseless facts and ideas.
Buddhists who don’t have extensive knowledge on Tripitaka Dhamma and Pali language are easily deceived by these myths, mentioned the Prelates.
Considering the situation, a letter containing 6 points has been forwarded to bring light to this matter.
The Tripitaka texts compiled by the Tripitaka Text Compiling Board sponsored by the government should be declared as state property and legal provisions should be formulated immediately to protect them, states one point in the letter.
The letter further requests government sponsorship to implement the proposals under Article 9 of the Constitution and to prohibit people from conducting lectures and engaging in activities at state institutions that spread misinformation on Buddha Sasana.
