The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has initiated legal action against several traders in the Hatton Town for selling wheat flour above the controlled price imposed by the government.
Ranga Karunaratne, the District Head of Consumer Affairs Authority Office in Nuwara Eliya stated that these vendors were caught in the act during a sudden raid carried out yesterday (20).
Reportedly, the traders had not displayed the prices of wheat flour and sold the goods to the customers at prices above the controlled price.
Maximum retail price for 1kg of wheat flour should be Rs 89, however, the apprehended vendors have sold 1kg of wheat flour for various prices, Ranga Karunaratne stated.
Meanwhile, the wholesale and retail sellers recently claimed that 1kg of high-quality wheat flour cannot be sold at the given controlled price.
The consumers can only buy low-quality wheat flour at the maximum price imposed by the government, vendors in the Hatton town have stated.
