A group of traffic police officers have attempted to forcibly apprehend a person at a house in Thandikulam area in Vavuniya.

However, this had led to a conflict between the officers and residents of the area.

According to the police, a group of traffic police officers had signaled a motorcyclist to stop yesterday (22); however, the said motorcyclist had ignored the orders and continued to ride back to his home.

When the traffic police officers had visited the motorcyclist at his home to investigate, the said person had drunkenly proceeded to abuse the policemen with obscene words and attempted to assault them, states the Vavuniya Police.

Subsequently, the motorcyclist fled the scene and the police seized the motorcycle, say the Police.

However, the residents of the area say that the cyclist didn’t hear the signal of the officers ordering to stop the motorcycle.

They say that the policemen had tried to forcibly arrest the cyclist by coming to his house, which residents and the neighbors protested against.

Vavuniya Police stated that they will take action to arrest the motorcyclist.
