Sri Lanka welcomes Maldivian President Elect

Sri Lankan government has sent it’s well wishes to Maldives’ President Elect following Maldives’ Presidential election held yesterday (24), stated Ministry of Foreign Affairs issuing a media release.

Sri Lanka has also appreciated Maldivian government and people for holding a fair and peaceful election.

The complete message is as follows:

“Sri Lanka welcomes the Joint Opposition candidate Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih securing victory following the election in the Maldives where the people exercised their franchise in a decisive manner to uphold their commitment to democracy and the rule of law. 

We commend the government and the people of the Maldives for the conduct of a successful election process that was free, fair, and peaceful. 

Although the Election Commission has not as yet announced the final results, we congratulate Mr. Solih on his victory and look forward to working closely with him and the people of the Maldives in pursuing the elevation of relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka to greater heights.”
