Two youths arrested while transporting drugs in bus

Two suspects have been arrested by Omanthai Police while transporting a stock of intoxicating pills from Jaffna to Trincomalee this morning.

Police said the suspects were transporting 1,670 pills of a pharmaceutical drug, banned in the country due to its intoxicating effects, in a bus when they were arrested following a sudden search operation.

The arrested suspects, aged 23 and 25 years, are residents of Trincomalee while the pills were also taken into custody.

The suspects are to be produced at the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court while Omanthai Police is conducting further investigations.
