Several more days will be taken to restore the train services on the Batticaloa railway line as the prevailing inclement weather condition has obstructed the reparation process, says the Railway Department.

Colombo bound express passenger train from Batticaloa had derailed in Mahawa area, between the Moragollagama and Konwewa railway stations, at around 3.00 am, last morning (22).

Three compartments were completely derailed in the incident; however, none of the passengers sustained any injuries in the incident, the Railway Department stated.

Accordingly, the department has decided to terminate all train services at Maho Junction railway station.

Deputy Railway Superintendent U.S. Polwattage stated this responding to queries made by Ada Derana regarding the reparation process of the Batticaloa railway line.
