Sri Lanka Police comes under the President

Sri Lanka’s Police Department has been brought under the purview of the Ministry of Defence through an Extraordinary Gazette.

An Extraordinary Gazette notification has been issued by President Maithripala Sirisena with regard to the allocation of functions and duties and departments, state corporations for the new ministries.

Accordingly the Police Department which was under the Ministry of Law & Order has now been brought under the purview of the Ministry of Defence.

President Maithripala Sirisena is the Minister of Defence and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
