Two held with cigarettes worth over Rs 2 million at BIA

Two Sri Lankan passengers have been apprehended while attempting to smuggle cigarettes worth over Rs 2 million into the country.
The passengers who arrived from Dubai at 06.30 am on Friday (9) were detained by Customs officers at the Green Channel of the arrival lounge at the airport.
They had attempted to smuggle in 205 cartoons of foreign cigarettes containing 41,000 sticks valued at Rs 2,050,000 packed in their traveling bags.
The suspected passengers are 35 years and 38 years of age and residents of Colombo and Marawila.
The stock of foreign cigarettes were declared forfeit after the formal Customs Inquiry.
