President & PM hold discussions gearing up for elections

A discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the leaders of their respective political parties has been held today (12).
The intention of holding the discussion has been deciding on contesting at the upcoming General Elections as a broad alliance and on the symbol that should be employed to represent them.
Reportedly, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) and Sri Lanka Mahajana Pakshaya (SLMP) had participated in the discussion.
Meanwhile, a meeting of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and a group of parliamentarians that withdrew from SLFP was held last night (11).
Commenting on the details of this meeting, Minister S.B. Dissanayake stated that the number of members elected from Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and All Ceylon People’s Congress will decrease considerably in the forthcoming elections.
