Tourist hotel in Kurunegala sealed for selling liquor on Vesak

A tourist hotel in Pellandeniya, Kurunegala selling liquor on Vesak Poya Day has been raided today, the Media Spokesperson of the Department of Excise said.

The raid was conducted by the Excise Special Operations Bureau today (18) acting on the public complaints received by them.

The hotel, operating under Excise license, has now been sealed by the excise officers as per the orders of the Commissioner General of Excise.

The Excise Department says that the hotel was granted with 2 Excise Licenses F.L. 7 and F.L. 8 categories and it has obtained approval of the Tourist Board to operate as a tourist hotel.

The licensee and the employees of the hotel will be charged for selling liquor to the general public in Vesak Poya Day, says the Excise Department.

They will be subject to a heavy penalty and his licenses would be at risk to cancellation or suspension, the department added.
